| {The Beautician and the Beast, 1997 - Joy Miller & Boris P} Joy Miller: OK, a lot of great men had mustaches. Hitler, Franco... Boris Pochenko: Einstein! Joy Miller: Oh, and that's who you wanna look like? |
....Pretty much I could just use this movie every single day for the rest of the year and not run out of fantastic quotes. If you haven't seen this -- YOU SHOULD! It's like...Sound of Music with Maria having teased hair and a wicked Queens accent...and the Captain acting as a dictator in a minor European country.
Seriously the best movie ever!

Oh...quotes...of course, Lord of the Rings has a ton of good ones. And Princess Bride is essentially the Most Quotable Movie Ever. Period dramas occasionally have some (thinking 1995 P&P, 2009 Emma). And Italian Job also has a couple of good ones (thought that movie is recommended with caution -- it has a little swearing...just research before you watch).
ReplyDeleteI think three of my siblings suggested The Princess Bride this morning!!! :D I DO love the 1996 Emma for great quotes! Well...really ANY Emma! And P&P is always a winner! I haven't seen The Italian Job, but I have wanted to for a long time! I will have to check it out!
DeleteYeah, Princess Bride has bottomless quotes, pretty sure. :) Emma quotes...love them! Delightful. And Italian Job -- I highly recommend it (loved it, personally) but like I said, there's a little language and some mild thematic elements -- not too bad, though. IMDB probably has details. If you do watch it...looking forward to your thoughts on it! :)
DeleteI had never heard of this movie before, but now I'll definitely be checking it out! Quotes, huh? I totally agree on the amount of quotability contained in the LoTR and The Princess Bride (my 5yo sis was just waxing on about "Mawage" and "And wuv, tru wuv..." as she played with her little plastic animals this morning). :-) Lately my brothers and I have been watching an embarrassing amount of Psych, so lots of Shawn and Gus interactions have been popping up ("Gus, don't be a myopic chihuahua", "this is my partner, Lavender Gooms." etc. :-). Other than that, we tend to fall back on lots of Period Dramas, Disney/Pixar movies and Doctor Who. My current favorites are probably, "I'm not saying she was very silly, but one of us was silly and it wasn't me." from Wives and Daughters, and anything that Mr. and Mrs. Palmer say in Sense and Sensibility. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's a GREAT movie!!!!!! You should def. watch it! Ooooh year, I LOVE Psych! Pretty much everything they say is HILARIOUS. YES! I love that quote from Wives and Daughters! Keep an eye out...I'll probably use that soon!! :)
DeleteCharity is SO right - 'Italian Job' rocks. The new version is most cool.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this movie! It's a piece of cute fun that is rarely found in movies today.
I def have to watch "Italian Job"! Sounds cool!!!
DeleteMy family quotes a movie called "Mr. Mom" constantly, and have for the past few decades -- it's an 80s Michael Keaton comedy, sooooooooooooo amazingly quotable. Anything unpleasant is "like having your gums scraped." If we don't like someone, we say, "How'd you like a little trim on that mustache, Ron?" If someone asks if another person wants their honest opinion, we say, "No, lie to him, he likes it." Just on and on and on... amazingly fun movie.
ReplyDeleteWe also quote a western comedy called "Support Your Local Sheriff" a lot, and have for many years. If my husband asks if I have any plans, I mutter, "Stay out of the line of fire whenever I can." If someone makes an astute observation about something, we say, "I think you've got the situation pegged, Jake." And whenever the question of dividing something comes up, one of us squints at the other and says, "Sixty fer who and forty fer who? What you mean is sixty fer you and forty fer me!" Brilliantly funny movie. Love it unreservedly.
Ok, I'm going to have to watch Mr. Mom -- and I LOVE "Support Your Local Sheriff"!!!! :D SO good! :D
DeleteWoohoo! Someone else who has seen SYLS! Very cool.
Delete"Joe, you just make me tired all over. It's bad enough to have to kill a man without having to listen to a whole lot of stupid talk from him first."
"You are the toughest-talkin' blowhard I have ever met."
"I've never made any secret of the fact that basically, I'm on my way to Australia."
"I thought this was frontier country and WE was pioneers!"
"So did I!"
Oh, how I love that movie!!! I should rewatch and review it on my blog for that period drama challenge I'm participating in -- introduce more people to it!
LOVE this movie. Even my ultra-anti-chick-flick husband laughed through the whole thing and quotes it now! Lol
ReplyDeleteI love this movie! It is perfect when one needs a laugh. :)
ReplyDeleteI know, right?? SO great!
DeleteOkay, along with last week's movie, I'm adding this one to my list, too! Love your Monday Movie quotes series, gral! I'm afraid a lot of our movie quotes originate from mostly "kids" movies, like Muppet Treasure Island, Emperor's New Groove, Andy Griffith show or even Disney's Robin Hood. My sisters, best friend and I quote a LOT from the Pride & Prejudice comedy (**sniff sniff* Which you don't like **sniff sniff**) I find myself muttering Doctor Who quotes under my breath a lot, although no one else knows what the heck I'm talking about, since I'm the only one in my family who's watched Doctor Who (not something my fam would watch as a whole, one of those "I watch it on my laptop" series *grin*). I also find "clot-pole" coming to mind when I want to "insult" someone. ;) You should seriously consider a link-up on these posts, I would totally be there!! It's a fun way to start the week! :D
ReplyDeleteWAIT!!!! What P & P comedy do I not like??????? :D Haha, yes, I quote DW allll the time... "flapper - or slapper?" (appropriate only as she was dressed in 20's style and so referencing the time....lol). UHM, yes. Clot-pole is an all-time favorite!!!! I have to admit...I've never done a link up because I don't know what tool to use to do the link-up thing! But I think it would be a BLAST! Do you know what is the link-up tool people most commonly use?
DeleteThe Mormon comedy one with Kam Heskin? I thought I remember you saying you didn't like that one very much...but maybe my brain is lying to me! I hope so - since I adore it to death!
DeleteMost people used the Simply Linked gadget thing (http://www.simply-linked.com), although I did have some trouble with it when I tried it, but everyone else seems to have fah-valous success with it! It's SO easy it should be illegal, even I figured out how to use it! You should give it a try!
I LOVE that movie!!!! :D It is totally ridiculous, yes, but still...I love just about any version of P & P!! :D I just wish I could find a copy of it somewhere!
DeleteI found mine on Amazon! To buy it new from Amazon is a little steep, but there's other sellers selling it for cheaper! Just watched it again last week with a friend! Here's the Amazon link:

Hey, did you hear about BBC's new show, the Musketeers? With Santiago Cambrera (you know...Merlin's Lancelot!) as one of the three? Here's to hoping it's as good as Merlin! :)
ReplyDeleteWHAT?! NO!!! :D I hope it is AWESOME!!!!!!! Yay!
Delete!!!!!!!! Loved Merlin (show and guy), loved Lancelot. Must watch!! :)
DeleteAGREED!!
DeleteLOL. I think we have a lot in common. I love this movie, and I'm a huge fan of both actors. Love all the little Britishisms you have throughout your blog. In case you don't know me, I'm British, born in Northern Ireland which is part of Great Britain still. Hah, you've still got me giggling over your site. Love it.
