Do you pay a visit to Bedford Falls every Christmas? Does December feel incomplete without a reminder that “no man is a failure who has friends”? If George and Mary Bailey are annual guests at your home during the holidays, you already know that It’s A Wonderful Life is far more than just a festive seasonal film. It’s a reflection of what we can be when we’re at our best and a reminder that our lives can change everyone around us—for better or worse. Revisit the defining lessons in Frank Capra’s 1946 classic, and discover new dimensions of the film you’ve seen time and again. What can you learn from Mary’s quiet contentedness? Does George’s selflessness make you rethink your own priorities? And how about Clarence’s dogged commitment to his assignment? Join author Bob Welch for a close-up of the characters and themes that shape this beautiful story. You’ll be reminded that life’s most important work is often the work we never planned to do and that God can use the most unlikely among us to get the job done.
First of all -- I have to say the only reason I chose to review this book, was because it's connection with classic cinema (which I love!!!!!). Can I just say -- I wasn't let down!
Who doesn't just love cuddling up in front of the fire with hot cocoa and your favorite blanket and flicking on the TV to take a stroll down memory lane with one of the most inspirational underdogs of all time -- George Bailey. The film is a classic -- and by classic I don't just mean old. I mean a really really great film that has never stopped touching the hearts of those who share it.
Bob Welch's "52 Little Lessons from It's a Wonderful Life"is a book that I think will soon become a classic to read around the table during the holiday season. It is not a devotional (I was relieved), it is just a really neat book that explores a little deeper the thoughts we have every Christmas when we turn on this film. In this book, Welch has helped us develop these thoughts to a new level where we can apply them to our lives year round (not just November - January!), and at the same time, brought some new thoughts to the table about the inspirational theme of the film
I hope you take the time to pick up this book from your local bookstore this holiday season, and maybe take some time to share these "52 Little Lessons" with your loved ones as you gather around the fire (or turkey!) in the next few months!
